Nutrition is a crucial component of overall health, and nutrition during childhood can have lasting effects on individuals' long-term health. Exclusive breastfeeding, in particular, has long-term implications for both mothers and children, especially children under two years of age. Among other benefits, breastfeeding has been proven to improve children's immunity, improve health outcomes later in life, and serve as a form of natural contraception for mothers in the six months after delivery. But Jordan still faces challenges in meeting international best practices for breastfeeding and child nutrition that seriously impact the country's health.
JNIL is an exciting new addition to Mindset's development efforts across Jordan. The lab is one of 20 Innovation Labs worldwide supported by the USAID Bureau for Resilience and Food Security. With support from USAID/Jordan, JNIL will conduct rigorous research and build Jordanian health professionals' capacity to reduce all forms of nutrition across the country. As part of the project, we will also evaluate the USAID-supported Community Health and Nutrition project (CHN), which aims to improve the nutrition of pregnant and lactating women and children under the age of two.
The webinar will feature international experts on MICYHN, including Dr. Shibani Ghosh, a Research Associate Professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Principal Investigator of the Jordan Nutrition Innovation Lab, and the Associate Director for the Feed the Future Food Systems for Nutrition Innovation Lab; Bethany Haberer, the Director of the Population and Family Health Office at USAID/Jordan; and Rawhieh Barham, head of nutrition in PHC Administration for the Jordan Ministry of Health.
